CITY COMMISSION CANDIDATE REGINA HILL ENDORSES
'SAVE TINKER FIELD' EFFORT
(Orlando, FL) Regina Hill, candidate for the Orlando City Commission, District 5 has announced her strong support for saving historic Joe Tinker Field.
"This is a cause that is strongly supported by the people of District 5 and they've told me this is important to them," stated Hill. "Tinker Field has a very important place in the history of this community and has been the location for many very important milestones in our district, including the only visit to Orlando by the Dr. Martin Luther King in 1964 and the ballpark where baseball legend Jackie Robinson played some of his first ballgames." "It must be preserved," Hill concluded.
Currently, the City of Orlando city commission has voted to move ahead with the overall plan for renovating the Citrus Bowl. Although, Hill supports the Citrus Bowl renovation, she believes that the Tinker Field issue should have been a stand-alone vote in an effort for the people to decide if Tinker Field should remain or be demolished.
Hill's opponents have been silent on the issue of saving this historic ballpark and opponent Juan Lyman's mother, Daisy Lynum has supported tearing down the ball field.
Currently, the 'SAVE TINKER FIELD' Facebook page lists over 700 supporters and a recent internet poll offered by the Orlando Sentinel showed 70% of those responding wanting to save the field.
The City of Orlando election for city commission will be held next Tuesday, April 8th. Polls are open from 7 am until 7 pm.
