The term "self-Sufficient" Is Always Important!!

At what point do those who claim to be "for the community" (also known as the "high density black-American urban areas") and those who claim to be "representatives of the community" and those who claim that they are "empathetic to the community" use the term "self-sufficient" and argue for "self-sufficiency" as the only end goal for those in the "community" (in order for economic liberation to truly be achieved) when arguing for and advocating for the "community?"

I am speaking directly to the Central Florida political community with this query.

I have not heard it yet, nor have I read about it being uttered or advocated anywhere, nor have I seen a policy statement issued at all during the current real time narrative from the usual suspects who claim to be the "voices" of the "high density black-American urban areas." I have not seen it reported or disseminated by or reported by the cable news outlets or reported in print whether electronic print or through the internet or otherwise although there have been recent "caucuses" or "meetings" from those who make the claim of either "leadership" or "politically elected representation" of these areas. Indeed, there was a meeting just recently, as reported by some Facebook posts, of the Central Florida Democratic Black Caucus which apparently met at a hotel venue on the International Drive area last weekend (5/29-5/31, 2014).

I am not sure if the very population allegedly represented by that "caucus" was even aware of the

meeting, although I saw a number of pictures of all of the "stars" setting on the "dais" ready to speak and others at the "podium" receiving awards for "service" to the "community."

I have read not one policy statement released as a result of this "gathering." And, I would suggest to you that the term "self-sufficient" or the idea of becoming "self-sufficient" was not part of the discourse at that meeting.

I will admit, however, that I was not there (I did not know about it until I saw a post from a friend on Facebook) and my comments are purely speculation and as a result, I am editorializing. Indeed, if my opinion is wrong and my speculation is off base as to the issue of the term "self-sufficiency" not being discussed and advocated, I apologize.

But I am pretty sure that it was not discussed. I have never heard it being discussed and advocated in these types of settings.

I often read and hear about voter registration (which I have been an advocate for the expansion of voter registration opportunities for all since I was a broadcaster at WCFB-FM "Star94.5" from 1998-2004.) Indeed, when I was broadcasting to the "community", the expansion of voter registration and voter education was MY ONLY "community service project" at the radio station because in my view, it was necessary 365 days a year. For me, there was no other issue more important although those in the immediate upper management thought that I should "come up with something else" periodically. Obviously, we did not agree on that.

But I again ask, what about the advocacy of being "self-sufficient" being part of the narrative for the "community"?

I mean the bottom line is the following; becoming "self-sufficient" without question begins to eliminate the very economic issues that continue to plague the high density black-American urban areas. When you build your own businesses within the community, and those businesses then create jobs, the term "self-sufficient" becomes a real time, immediate present, reality.

Additionally, when one puts VALUE back in getting your education, in order to be QUALIFIED for any jobs that are available, whether they are from the formation of businesses within the community, or from outside business investment, then the road to economic recovery and liberation is a real time achievement. The term "self-sufficient" then becomes a real time, immediate present reality. Indeed, putting value back into getting educated is part of the plan for becoming "self-sufficient."

I argue that the continued narratives that "deck is stacked against you", and "the rich are greedy" for me, are just old. While some government assistance may be needed in certain instances, the idea that those programs should be infinite should be debated and questioned within these "caucuses" and "meetings" by these so-called "leaders."

Again, the term "self-sufficient" is always important!!

Let's begin to discuss how to become "self-sufficient."
