Buddy Dyer’s Destruction of Parramore Continues with Grand Theft of Historic Bricks

Historic Parramore bricks taken by Mayor Buddy Dyer to use in other parts of the city.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s destruction of historic Parramore continues to rage on, now including the grand theft of Parramore’s historic bricks to use in other parts of the city! Making the matter even worse, Dyer’s administration is lying once again about the reasons.

Another horrible broken promise by Buddy Dyer to the people of Parramore. But this lie gets worse, as the historic bricks are no longer made, and experts say the ones being ripped up in Parramore are worth about $2 million.

WFTV Channel 9′s report begins reminding viewers, “The city promised the people of Parramore a beautiful brick-lined street from the Amway Center to the Citrus Bowl, but it doesn’t appear that that’s going to happen.”

Now, Parramore will now only get an asphalt road, while their historic bricks will be used in Orlando’s wealthier areas. What?!

The city claims it did not get enough federal grant money to restore the Parramore bricks in Parramore as promised. But like most things the City of Orlando claim, this one doesn’t add up. WFTV’s Lori Brown discovered the plans were drawn up by Dyer’s administration in 2007, two years after the grant was awarded.

The larger plan behind “Not My Buddy” Dyer’s destruction of Parramore was illuminated by his lap dog on the City Council, Commissioner Daisy Lynum, who is up for re-election in April. Lynum said on video about Parramore: “It will not be minority for long. We’re going to guarantee that.”

Back in January, I helped launch the Fight Back Coalition to Save Parramore, releasing our first two videos against Dyer’s gentrification and abuse. Be sure to check out Stop Creative Village, Save Parramore and Hey Orlando, Displacement is Gentrification. We have a lot planned for 2014 to fight back against Dyer’s destructive policies and actions.
