When They Jump Ship

No matter how awesome your relationship is, you need to understand that LIFE WILL HAPPEN… This includes good and bad things, unfortunately.

Yes, you're in love. But you're still a human being with the pressures of life, work, bills, responsibilities, raising kids and maintaining friendships.

Add to that the person you're in a relationship with and their pressures of life, work, bills, responsibilities, raising their own kids and keeping a social life and you shouldn't be shocked when I

tell you your relationship will require patience and nurturing and at times it will be challenging.

I subscribe to the COMMITMENT and DEDICATION mentality. Commitment is that "for better or for worse" line in marriage vows. And to be able to have that, you need to choose the right partner who respects and loves you to go through life's difficulties when they arise and help you navigate them. And that devotion is shown while you're dating. No one has a crystal ball. Perhaps, if either of you knew before hand what you know now you could have decided to never even give your relationship a go.

If you have a person that has pulled up their boot straps and will help you navigate your ship through your storms then YOU HAVE A KEEPER. If you have a person that jumps ship and says they didn't sign up for this… <– Hey, THAT'S OK. It really is. That person is letting you know they're NOT the one. They're not being mean. At this point, look at the reason they're leaving. Have they experienced the same situation in their life before? If so, were they successful in resolving it? Chances are they were NOT. They're most likely jumping ship because this challenge reminds them of the past and that past doesn't feel good. So, open the door, let them leave or let them go… Have a cry… Talk to some friends, have a glass of wine if that's what you need. :-) Be thankful for the bullet you just dodged and put yourself back into the groove of things QUICKLY. (wink)

But if you have that person who won't abandon ship, who sticks it out with you… You need to LOVE, UPHOLD, RESPECT, HONOR and BE THANKFUL for them. Life's difficulties ALWAYS show us who we can REALLY count on.
