#BHMUpgrade Day 305 of Supporting a Black Business brings me to Gubbas Takeout in Orlando's Oakridge Community. Owned and operated by Teddy Neilly, #GubbasTakeout is a provider of authentic Bahamian foods specializing in Conch dishes of every sort. In business 9 months, they have a testily assembled blend of seasoning for a traditional island taste that brings customers from all over the Orlando metropolitan region. Their signature menu items include Crack conch plates, Conch salad, Conch burgers, Conch fritters, Rasta pasta, fried fish and shrimp, chicken wings, Chicken in the Bag - Bahamian style fried chicken, as well as Sunday dinner platters of Oxtails, pork chops, fried ribs and more. Their side dishes include macaroni, peas & rice, cabbage, corn, plantains, crab & lobster slaw, Fries, along with healthy dishes of garden salads, summer salads w/shrimp and regular pasta. A New Brunswick, New Jersey native raised in Freeport, Bahamas with stints in Canada and Tallahassee, FL (Tallahassee Community College), owner Teddy Neilly has cooked since childhood following his parents who cooked at Caribbean and Bahamian festivals for over 30 years. Shifts in his profession due to the pandemic, led him to look for extra income opportunities. After being asked by Friends to cook frequently, Teddy developed a business concept and officially started Gubba's Takeout in March 2020. Their dishes are available for pre-order via phone, social media, Cash app and Zelle, with pickup and delivery options. They are open Thursday to Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm.
