#BHMUpgrade Day 184 of Supporting a Black Business brings me to Standing Ovation Talent Group, (SOTG) in Ocoee, FL inside of the West Oaks Mall. Founded, Owned and Directed by Terri Burns, #StandingOvationTalentGroup is a full service dance company catered towards youth and offering services for adults. In business for 23 years, Standing Ovation utilizes dance, fitness and poise to build the esteem and confidence of youth within and the through out the urban community while encouraging leadership and education for brighter futures. Standing Ovation has a spacious dance studio equipped to offer dance programs, clinics and training for children of all ages. They also offer dance lessons for adults individually and in group sessions if desired. Their specialized dance styles include ballet, pointe, tap, musical, theatre, lyrical, modern, hip hop, tumbling, leaps & turns, Zumba and more. Founder and Executive Artist Director Terri Burns had a passion for dance since childhood, yet was often told that Arts weren't for her. Defying the negative stigma and getting encouragement from her loving husband Stoney, she started S.O.T.G. in 1997 and has soared ever since - Providing avenues for children and adults to express themselves and showcasing hidden talents, thus encouraging other art expressions to blossom. Director Burns has taken talented dance groups all over Central Florida performing for themed events and hosting their own Recitals, Extravaganzas, Musical Plays and more. In the Founders own words "I see them grown up; As time progresses they relaize their talents, and that they can do Anything with them". An Orlando native, Terri Burns is also Dance Director at Saint Mark AME Orlando where I (yes me) am one of her dance students and ministry participants.
