Most U.S. citizens remember the water crisis in Flint, Michigan that made national news headlines a few years ago. But recent research proves that Michigan isn’t the only state dealing with dangerous water. The states listed below are the top 10 states with the worst public water ratings across the country, based 2019 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Reports. Do you live here?

#10 PUERTO RICO: Nearly all of Puerto Rico’s water has violated federal standards for years. 410 of Puerto Rico’s public water systems had 112 very serious violations.
#9 GEORGIA: About 600 of Georgia’s public water systems violated the EPA’s water standards.
#8 ARIZONA: More than 800 of Arizona’s public water systems violated the EPA’s drinking water standards.
#7 WASHINGTON STATE: 1,047 of Washington’s public water systems violated the EPA’s water standards., and 11% of those were serious violators.
#6 NEW JERSEY: According to estimates EPA, one out of five New Jersey residents regularly drink highly contaminated water. Almost 1,400 of New Jersey’s public water systems violated the EPA’s quality standards.
#5 OHIO: Ohio communities live with water that has unsafe levels of iron, sulfate, or other mineral compounds due to abandoned mining areas. About 1,500 of Ohio’s public water systems violated the EPA’s quality standards.
#4 CALIFORNIA: This state has water systems with contaminants combined with arsenic- and uranium -- high enough to potentially cause cancer and developmental issues in children. Over 1 million California residents received unsafe drinking water and 1,600 of California’s public systems violated the EPA’s water quality standards.
#3 FLORIDA: The Sunshine State is blasted with hurricanes and storms which cause floods that constantly add more contaminants to the state’s drinking water. 1,650 of Florida’s public systems violated the EPA’s water quality standards.
#2 TEXAS: Roughly 12 million Texans are served with unsafe water, the latest reports say that Texas still has the country’s most radiated drinking water. Over 3,350 of Texas’s public water systems violated the EPA’s water quality standards.
#1 PENNSYLVANIA: The Keystone State has a long history of water pollution, due to over 200,000 abandoned coal mines, gas and oil wells that continue leaking toxins into groundwater. Nearly 6 million Pennsylvanian residents are served with unsafe water systems. 4,010 of Pennsylvania’s public water systems violated the EPA’s water quality standards.
