Commissioner Regina Hill finds herself in a very difficult situation; while following the legacy of Commissioner Daisy Lynum. It will take a lot more than 100 days to see if Ms. Hill is able to deliver on the promises made during her campaign. The people in her district voted for change and deserve the right to have the leadership they selected.

And then there were two. The battle line has been drawn for the County Commission District 6 election. Victoria Siplin will square off against Derrick Wallace this coming November 4th. Siplin edged out Wallace for first-place in the primary on the backs of her fellow Haitian voters. But now that the other four candidates are out, Wallace will have the double advantage of being the only Orlando native and he will have financial backing. While Siplin only raised $21 thousand, Wallace commanded a $170 thousand war chest. And, he will certainly surpass that amount in the general election.

Dick Batchelor Supports Transferring School Funds Out Of District 5

Dick BatchelorIn 2002 Dick Batchelor said that he supported the school board's half penny tax because he supported district 5 schools that needed to be rebuilt and refurbished. Even after receiving hundreds of millions of dollars of our tax money, the school board and Dick Batchelor supported the illegal closing of Richmond Heights Elementary School and they are in the planning stages of closing Jones High School and other District 5 schools by limiting enrollments.

Charlie Crist Going after the Black Vote in Florida Governor's Race

The Black vote will start determining the winner in many statewide races around the country. In the 2012 election the Black women vote was the largest voting segment in the country. When Black men realize their voting power and partnering with Black women, they will create a block that will determine the outcomes in many major races.

Governor Scott has dismissed the Black vote as if it does not exist, and Charlie Crist has taken the opposite strategy and approach. Charlie Crist is opening campaign headquarters in Back communities, and this will make a different in getting the Black vote out during a mid-term election. Historically, the Black vote has been more effective during a presidential election cycle, but all the experts are watching this mid-term election very closely.
