The Michael Baisden Show Officially Off-Air
Effectively immediately The Michael Baisden Show is off the air.
I had a feeling something was up yesterday towards the close of the show ... something in MB's tone as he urged listeners to "always go for your dreams." and telling us he would always let us know what's going on. Today he reported on his Baisden Live facebook page that he is off-air and the corporate suits at Cumulus Media were angry enough about something that they locked MB and his staff out of the building.
Ten years of quality radio, an enormous following, listeners who look forward to the show everyday betweeen 3-7 ... just kicked us all to the curb.
Unbelievable.
I don't know what happened and Michael Baisden is keeping is classy, as usual, with his uplifting and positive attitude. He's not spilling any beans and that's probably a good idea since the internet spin cycle is already having a field day with the news. Cumulus hasn't responded to questions either and MB's right to stay above the fray. My sense is it's some kind of hoop he was unwilling to jump thru in contract negotiations but what do I know? Time will tell.
This was shocking news today and there are millions of disappointed supporters of the show globally wherever the signal was picked up. The fans in the 78 syndicated media markets didn't have a chance to say goodbye with this extreme and sudden move. I can't imagine any instance where it's good for a business to treat people with such disrespect, Michael Baisden and his staff, and particularly the listeners, the very people who support their services.
I would say call, email, fax, text, and blog to Cumulus Media if you're as mad about this as I am. It's clear from Michael Baisden's posts that he and his staff had planned to finish out these last nine days of the month but Cumulus decided that was too long. Yet, they'll be playing reruns of past MB shows until the end of the month which tells you it's not a problem with the show. Very unprofessional on the part of Cumulus Media. It smells fishy to me and I don't like it.
The silver lining here is that, Michael Baisden is a winner. I can't wait to see where he takes his impressive and effective brand of cool next. He is blazing trails for Black men, young & oldheads, sistas and the society at large and he's just getting started.
Not being stuck in a contract might just have released the beast!
It just keeps getting better for you Michael Baisden. Haters gonna hate .. and eat your dust as you continue blazing forward, breaking barriers and inspiring others to step up and do the same.
Thank you for all the good you've done so far and for all you'll continue to do.
