I had an interesting time at the Orlando District 5 City Commissioner Debate last Thursday evening at the beautiful Frontline Outreach Center. This evening however, was nothing more than a temporary distraction and offered no insight for direction that District 5 will take. I would never call this event a serious political debate.

Recently the State Attorney Aramis Ayala announced that she was not going to seek the death penalty in the Markeith Loyd prosecution. She also announced that she does not intend to seek the death penalty in any case while she serves as the State Attorney. This announcement triggered a firestorm of criticism and second guessing that ultimately culminated in Governor Scott replacing her as the prosecuting attorney in the Markeith Loyd matter. Reasonable people have voiced their concerns both for and against her decision.

In politics, I have been told that you pick your battles. But President Trump has a different theory, and he has decided to fight everyone that does not agree with his opinion, and that is a terrible way to start your administration.
There are over 600 administrative positions that must be filled, and staffers who have been hired are having meetings in the dark because they don’t know how to turn on the lights. There are leaks coming from aides who are questioning if the top staff understands the processes of the White House and/or the federal government.
